I was born in New Zealand and my ancestors emigrated from the British Isles during the 19th Century. I am fascinated with how and why they did this. I intend this blog to convey some of the things I have learned about my English, Irish and Scottish ancestors, who became ‘pakeha’ in the eyes of Maori in Aotearoa.

The menu of Pakeha Ancestors comprises the surnames of my eight great-grandparents. Stories that are relevant to two or more of these families can be found in both menus.

  1. I hope you could help me with some family tree research. I’m doing this on behalf of a friend who is descended from William Franklin and Eliza Cullum.
Their tree comes down through William and Eliza’s daughter Alice, who married Maurice Manthel.

Please let me know if you can provide ancestor information or even a GEDCOM file which would be great.
